Director`s Welcome
Welcome to the Harvin Clarendon County Library and to Manning, South Carolina,
"Matchless for Beauty and Hospitality." Our centralized location near
Interstates 95 and 26 and several major state highways, as well as a wide
variety of recreational, educational and business opportunities make the county
a wonderful place to live and work. Whatever your idea of relaxation or
enjoyment, from fine dining to fishing, you will find it in Manning, Turbeville,
Summerton, Paxville and Lake Marion.
The present library facility was built in 1984 through a
community fundraising drive that earned the Gale Research Financial
Development Award, an American Library Association award. The beautiful
building contains architectural details which truly reflects the community
support of the library. Manning is also the home of Peggy Parish, author of the
children's series about that hapless maid named Amelia Bedelia. I have been told
by friends of Ms. Parish that she really was Amelia Bedelia! A five foot bronze
statue of the maid stands in our courtyard.
The Harvin Clarendon County Library lives by it's motto found at the top of this
page. We have South Carolina historical materials, resources for the present,
and the "window to the future" is reflected in our electronic resources that
brings the world within reach.
I hope you enjoy your visit to our library and our county. Visit us often as we
will continually be updating and improving our site.
